Cadangan minyak dunia sebanyak 70% berada di kawasan Timur Tengah. Ini membuat kita berpikir betapa mereka sangat beruntung karena alam begitu bermurah hati pada manusia di sana.

Tapi tahukah anda bahwa Indonesia memiliki cadangan energi yang tidak kalah dahsyat dan jumlahnya melimpah? Ditambah pula, sumber cadangan energi ini dapat diperbaharui dan tidak akan pernah habis.

Panas bumi. Ya, Indonesia merupakan negara dengan potensi panas bumi/geothermal terbesar di dunia. Total potensi energi yang dapat dihasilkan sebesar 27 GWe. Hingga tahun 2004, sebanyak 252 titik sumber panas bumi telah teridentifikasi. Sumber panas bumi ini tersebar mengikuti jalur gunug api mulai dari Sumatera, Jawa, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, hingga Maluku.
